GREEN FLASH KICKS OFF 2017 ANNUAL TREASURE CHEST PROGRAM

RAISING FUNDS FOR BREAST CANCER CHARITIES FROM COAST TO COAST WITH NEW BEER RELEASE AND EVENTS IN SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER

This week, Green Flash Brewing Co. announces the lineup for their 2017 “Treasure Chest” fundraising program. This is the craft brewery’s 7th annual beer release and special event series to raise funds for breast cancer charities. This year, the new beer released for the program is an IPA brewed with passion fruit, and it will be available on-draft in 37 US states, supported by a dynamic, on-premise, tiki-themed event program in key cities. Treasure Chest beer will be available on draft beginning in September and October 2017. Green Flash kicked off the fundraiser this past weekend by hosting the 7th annual San Diego Treasure Chest Fest – a rare beer and food pairing experience at their Cellar 3 barrel-aging facility. For the 4th year running, Green Flash will host Treasure Chest Fest at their Virginia Beach brewery on October 15th.

Raising money for the fight against breast cancer is a cause that has an especially personal connection for the founders of Green Flash. Brewery Co-Founder, Lisa Hinkley is a breast cancer survivor and is passionate about giving back to those whose lives have been affected by this disease. Through the Treasure Chest program, the brewery has raised over $300,000 dollars for our national and regional charity partners including Prevent Cancer nationally and the Susan G Komen affiliates in San Diego and Virginia Beach.

“As a breast cancer survivor, I am encouraged to see the Treasure Chest program grow every year,” says Green Flash Co-Founder, Lisa Hinkley. “Through the unwavering support of our customers, distributors, and retailers, we are making strides in our efforts to raise money towards awareness and prevention, and I am hopeful the program will only continue to make a difference in the lives of individuals affected by breast cancer.”

Following are highlights and details of the 2017 Green Flash Treasure Chest national charity program:

Treasure Chest Fests – On West and East Coasts:

San Diego Fest: On August 27th, Green Flash kicked off the Treasure Chest initiative with their 7th annual San Diego Treasure Chest Fest. This popular event welcomed around 600 attendees and is the brewery’s most anticipated rare beer and food pairing event of the year. All proceeds from ticket sales are donated to Susan G Komen San Diego.

Virginia Beach Fest: For the 4th straight year, Green Flash will host Treasure Chest Fest at their brewery in Virginia Beach, VA. This year’s festival will feature rare beer and food pairings along with live music in the brewery’s sprawling beer garden. The event will take place on Sunday, October 15th.

Treasure Chest on-premise events from coast-to-coast:

During September and October, Treasure Chest on premise events are scheduled in select US cities in 37 states, which is a significant increase from last year’s initiative. Participating bars and restaurants in each area will co-host Treasure Chest events ranging from complex beer pairing dinners to lively tap takeovers with the Treasure Chest 2017 beer and other Green Flash specialty brews. This year, several national retail chains will be hosting events and featuring the beer including: Alamo Drafthouse, Flying Saucer, Growler USA, Hop Cat, Pies & Pints, Pizza Press, Stout Burgers and Yard House. Guests who attend these events may receive Treasure Chest commemorative items as well as have the opportunity to donate directly to the charity partners.

GREEN FLASH BREWING CO. OPENING 3RD BREWERY IN LINCOLN, NEBRASKA

NEW MIDWEST PRODUCTION FACILITY WILL FEATURE TASTING ROOM AND RESTAURANT

Less than one year after opening doors to their second brewery on the east coast, Green Flash Brewing Co. announces they are expanding into the Midwest and opening a third location in Lincoln, NE. They have purchased a 10,000-square-foot production facility and tasting room with a restaurant in the Nebraska state capital, and will join Lincoln’s burgeoning craft beer community. The new brewery was purchased intact, and Green Flash expects the tasting room, restaurant, and brewhouse to be open and operating by the end of this year. Upon opening, Green Flash will be able to offer fresh beer with regional prices in the Midwest, and will focus on the consumer connection in their Lincoln tasting room. The move reveals Green Flash’s long-term strategy to increase their strength as a national brand by establishing regional footholds in key cities across the United States.  

“We hope to become a local favorite in our new Nebraska home,” states Mike Hinkley, Co-Founder of Green Flash Brewing Co. “And we’re excited to be closer to our fans across the Midwest. We’ll be sending them fresher Green Flash beer, and hope they will visit us in Lincoln.”

The turn-key space includes first-class brewing, tasting room, and restaurant equipment. When it is up-and-running, the facility will employ 20-plus locals who will fill roles including front and back of house as well as brewing positions. This will be the first full-scale restaurant venture by Green Flash, and approximately 2,000 square feet of the space will be dedicated to food and beer service for about 100-seats. The menu will include beer pairing suggestions, and feature well-executed, simple dishes with fresh and seasonal ingredients. Most importantly, the tasting room and restaurant location will cater to the needs of the bustling downtown business district and is in walking distance to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

“We will strive to offer the best possible guest experience and will cater to the community that surrounds us,” says Dave Adams, Vice President of Retail Operations for Green Flash Brewing Co. “This includes A/V provisions for Huskers sports during the season, allowing those in the immediate area to enjoy fresh Green Flash and Alpine beer both on and off premise.”

From a production standpoint, the new brewery will operate with a 10,000 BBL annual capacity under the direction of Brewmaster, Erik Jensen. In Nebraska, they will focus on brewing both Green Flash and Alpine beers to increase the supply of supply fresh, locally priced beer to the region.

Green Flash will celebrate their 15-year anniversary this fall and is currently available in all 50 states and select international markets.

Green Flash Brewing Co is hosting Treasure Chest Beer + Food Fest 2017 – the brewery’s largest and most anticipated rare beer and food-pairing event of the year. This year, the event is moving to Green Flash’s rare beer production facility, Cellar 3 located in Poway and they will add live music as well as a homebrewer competition to the day’s offerings.

For the 7th year in a row, Treasure Chest Fest benefits local breast cancer charity: Susan G Komen San Diego, and all proceeds from ticket sales are donated to the charity. The ‘fest is now a San Diego tradition – an exceptional celebration of craft beer and food including hands-on culinary demos.

This year, the ‘fest will be taking over the entire parking lot, tasting room, and production facility of Cellar 3 in Poway – allowing attendees the opportunity to sample from an exceptional lineup of their rare, specialty, one-off, and barrel aged beers from Green Flash, Cellar 3, and Alpine Beer Company. Green Flash has hand-selected some of their favorite local restaurants to develop (and donate) thoughtful food pairings to go with each beer.

The event also marks the national release of the brewery’s popular Treasure Chest beer –an IPA with passion fruit.

NEW THIS YEAR Treasure Chest Homebrew Contest: Green Flash hosting their first-ever Treasure Chest Homebrew Contest, and has over 30 entrants. The brewery has invited local homebrewers to enter their best IPA brew, which will be reviewed by an expert panel of judges. The contest winner will get the chance to brew with the Green Flash team on the pilot system, and have their winning IPA served in the Mira Mesa tasting room. The winners will be announced in a ceremony at the festival on the Behind the Craft stage.

Games and Activities: This year’s fest will feature lots of cool-down space as well as a variety of fun activities and games options including a dunk tank (where you can dunk a brewer), caricature illustrations by Jorge Pacheco Caricature and more.

Festival Marketplace: Green Flash is hand-selecting some of the best in local San Diego craft vendors to join the party this year! Fest goers can shop at the Treasures Chest marketplace while they enjoy fest food and drink. By participating, all vendors will donate to Komen for the Cure San Diego.

Dress Up! – This year’s ‘fest brings back the tropical Hawaiian Luau theme. So, grab your best Tiki attire. Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts and retro-inspired Hawaiian kitsch attire is encouraged.

Green Flash Brewing Co Announces the 2017 Barrelmaster’s Reserve Series from Cellar 3

Brilliant Sauvage is First Bottle Release to Debut April 8th

Green Flash Brewing Co. announces 2017 plans to continue their popular Barrelmaster’s Reserve series of extremely limited edition, barrel-aged beers from their Cellar 3 facility. Last year, the small-batch series introduced three one-offs, with each release selling out within hours of going on sale. This year, the series will continue to reveal some of the exciting innovation that Pat Korn and the entire brewing team have been developing. The first release is called Brilliant Sauvage, and just 600 bottles will be sold exclusively in the Cellar 3 tasting room on Saturday, April 8th. Brilliant Sauvage is a wild ale aged in red wine barrels with passion fruit. Other releases for the year will include a barrel-aged wild ale with added mango, a barrel-aged Belgian-style stout, and a Holiday-inspired ale. Each Barrelmaster’s Reserve beer is experimental, with strong emphasis on the importance of collaboration between the talented Green Flash brewing team, who work closely with Pat on both ideation and execution. This series offers consumers an opportunity to sample some of the most elusive one-offs coming from this innovative production facility.

“The results of our recent experimentation at Cellar 3 is exceeding expectations,” says Barrelmaster, Pat Korn. “We are inspired by the great Belgian sour producers, reinterpreting classic flavors and adding our own distinctly Californian twist. This year’s series will feature the most innovative efforts to date, and we are excited to be able to bottle and share a little of our pride and joy with the community.”

April release details – Brilliant Sauvage

Initially brewed with passion fruit puree and passion fruit tea, this exceptional ale is then skillfully inoculated with their house brett strain and aged for 8 months in a brilliant blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mouvedre barrels. Encouraged by the wood and wild yeast, it emerges with an earthy and vivid complexity. A cold brew blend of passion fruit tea is then added, as a finishing touch. An aromatic celebration of passion fruit and verbena, Brilliant Sauvage offers flavors of tart mango and red wine with distinct brett-notes of damp earth and a satisfying barnyard funk. 6.1% ABV

All Barrelmaster’s Reserve series beers are produced in extremely limited quantities, with just 600-1800 bottles per release as well as a small amount on draft, allocated to special occasions and select retailers nationwide. Cellar 3 also offers a complete lineup of rare and barrel-aged beers that are nationally available.

About Pat Korn, Barrelmaster, Green Flash Brewing Co.

Pat Korn is the Barrelmaster at Green Flash Brewing Co. and oversees Cellar 3 beer production – a series of rare, barrel-aged beer offerings and the brewery’s 2nd San Diego facility. As Barrelmaster, Pat oversees Cellar 3 operations on-site, including choosing the barrels used and creating the recipes for innovative Cellar 3 ales.

Originally from San Francisco, Pat developed a solid foundation as cellarman with a winery in Northern California where he assisted the winemaker in every facet of production and in the vineyards. He moved to San Diego in the early 90s, and transitioned into brewing, working with Karl Strauss and La Jolla Brewhouse.  A longtime friend and admirer of Green Flash, Pat joined the brewing team in 2010 while the company was expanding from small brewhouse in Vista to their current headquarters in Mira Mesa. While he has focused on all areas of production at Green Flash, he developed a special interest in the brewery’s burgeoning barrel program almost immediately. Pat officially took on the role of Barrelmaster last year, and has been instrumental in getting the Cellar 3 project off the ground. GREEN FLASH ANNOUNCES 2017 PLANS

Kicking off the New Year by shipping beer from breweries on both coasts, Green Flash Brewing Co. announces plans for their 2017 product lineup. Hop heavyweight and cult-favorite, Palate Wrecker Imperial IPA will be returning, available in 6-packs and on draft beginning in February for a limited time. The brand will also introduce GFB Blonde Ale – a crowd-pleasing and drinkable new option which will be available on draft in January, followed by cans in the Spring, with plans to release bottles in 2018. Green Flash is now producing and shipping beers from both the San Diego and Virginia Beach breweries. They will continue production of all front-line beers released in 2016, as well as rotate several new limited-release offerings into the mix from Green Flash Cellar 3 throughout 2017.

About GFB Blonde Ale
“GFB will round out our portfolio, offering our customers a high-quality, easy-drinking option” explains Green Flash Co-Founder and CEO, Mike Hinkley. “It is full of Green Flash character, and perfect for when beer is part of the occasion but not the center of it – like in a pitcher at a bowling alley, in cans at the beach, or filling the cooler on game day.”

Available in January on draft and in cans this Spring, GFB is 4.8% ABV and features packaging that offers a distinctly different look for the brand. The Green Flash front-line labels spell out the details about each beer – from the hops and malts used to in-depth tasting notes. Clean and simple, the GFB tap-handles and labels convey the inspiration behind the beer and the quality of the brand, without the cues to analyze and document each drinking experience.

“GFB is definitely a departure for us,” explains Green Flash Brewmaster, Erik Jensen. “We tried several malt bills and experimented with different hops to come up with what I think is an interesting and drinkable Blonde Ale with fruity hop-character and a nice malty flavor. It’s become a go-to for when I want a few tasty, crushable beers.”

About Palate Wrecker’s Return
Palate Wrecker is a hop-forward Imperial IPA which was first introduced to celebrate the anniversary of popular San Diego watering hole, Hamilton’s Tavern. Due to its complex brewing process, Palate Wrecker production was put on hold to make room to introduce several new beers in 2016. The beer has a huge cult-following, and diehards have been clamoring to find out when the beer will be back in rotation.

“Palate Wrecker will always be part of Green Flash, but we can only produce it every so often because the crazy process used to make the beer chokes down our brewery’s capacity,” explains Mike Hinkley. “Bringing on Virginia Beach production capacity provided our brewers the opportunity for Palate Wrecker to get back to the business of wrecking palates.”

Palate Wrecker will be brewed at both breweries, to ensure the freshest batches of this IPA are available to consumers on each coast. It will be released for a limited-time-only in February, and will be sold in 6-packs (a first time configuration for this 9.5% brew) and on draft.

The 2017 Lineup – Now Brewing On Both Coasts
The following beers will be returning to the Green Flash national lineup in 2017: West Coast IPA, Soul Style IPA (available in cans and bottles), Tangerine Soul Style IPA, Passion Fruit Kicker Wheat Ale, Cosmic Ristretto Baltic Porter with Espresso, Dia de los Serranos Double Stout with Serrano Chiles, Imperial IPA, and Le Freak Belgian Style Imperial IPA, as well as year round can releases – Jibe Session IPA, Sea to Sea Zwickel Lager. The 2017 Green Flash Cellar 3 lineup of rare and barrel-aged beers includes a dozen new and returning products, which are available nationally on a limited-release basis.

GREEN FLASH DEBUTS 17.5% BARREL-AGED “OCHRE FRUMENTO”

SECOND RARE BEER IN CELLAR 3 BARRELMASTER’S RESERVE SERIES TO RELEASE SEPTEMBER 17TH

Today, Green Flash Brewing Co. announces the release of the second limited and rare beer in their Cellar 3 Barrelmaster’s Reserve series, Ochre Frumento. Ochre Frumento is a Barley Wine that has been aged for a combined total of 6-years in brandy and then bourbon barrels, and has the highest ABV of any Green Flash beer ever released at 17.5%. Only 600 of the bottles have been produced and they will be sold on a first come, first served basis at Cellar 3 on September 17th, with a limit of 2 bottles per person. Due to the limited release nature of the bottles in the series, the Barrelmaster’s Reserve offerings are the most collectable beers in the Green Flash portfolio. Barrelmaster, Pat Korn released the first beer in the Barrelmaster’s Reserve series, Lustrous Frumento with Coffee at the Cellar 3 anniversary event earlier this year, and the beer sold out in just a few hours.

Ochre Frumento is the second “micro release” bottle to debut as part of the Barrelmaster’s Reserve series. Their original California-influenced Barley Wine was first aged in brandy barrels, then transferred to bourbon barrels, for a combined total of over 6 years.

At 17.5% ABV, this beer is uniquely gluttonous and truly complex. Having drawn color from the barrel, it pours a deep brown, reminiscent of a Tawny port, and presents an aroma that is sharp and spirit-barrel forward. Prominent flavors of toffee and caramel envelop the palate, and supporting notes of ripened stone fruits with nutty complexity unfold through the finish.

Ochre Frumento will be available on September 17th exclusively in the Cellar 3 tasting room on a first-come, first-served basis with a two bottle limit per person. Each bottle will retail for $24.

About Pat Korn, Barrelmaster, Green Flash Brewing Co.

Pat Korn is the Barrelmaster at Green Flash Brewing Co. and oversees Cellar 3 beer production – a series of rare, barrel-aged beer offerings and the brewery’s 2nd San Diego facility. As Barrelmaster, Pat oversees Cellar 3 operations on-site, including choosing the barrels used and creating the recipes for innovative Cellar 3 ales.

Originally from San Francisco, Pat developed a solid foundation as cellarman with a winery in Northern California where he assisted the winemaker in every facet of production and in the vineyards. He moved to San Diego in the early 90s, and transitioned into brewing, working with Karl Strauss and La Jolla Brewhouse.  A longtime friend and admirer of Green Flash, Pat joined the brewing team in 2010 while the company was expanding from small brewhouse in Vista to their current headquarters in Mira Mesa.

While he has focused on all areas of production at Green Flash, he developed a special interest in the brewery’s burgeoning barrel program almost immediately. Pat officially took on the role of Barrelmaster last year, and has been instrumental in getting the Cellar 3 program off the ground. He is committed to taking a craft that is inherently random and working to produce a consistently great product that tastes the same whether you are in the tasting room or across the country.

GREEN FLASH ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL GRAND OPENING IN VIRGINIA BEACH, VA

CRAFT BREWERY OPERATING ON BOTH COASTS STARTING IN NOVEMBER

Today, Green Flash Brewing Co. announces that they will host the official grand opening of their 2nd craft brewing facility in Virginia Beach, VA on Sunday, November 13th. The brewery will celebrate the much-anticipated opening with a weekend-long lineup of events including their 3rd annual Treasure Chest Fest, part of their national initiative to raise money for breast cancer charities. The ticketed event will be hosted on Saturday, November 12th and will be the first opportunity for visitors to explore the new Green Flash east coast facility, followed by the grand opening celebration that will be open to the public on November 13th. Upon completion, the production facility will provide freight efficiencies that will supply fresh Green Flash beer to the east coast, immediately passing the savings from regionalized shipping on to the consumer. The expansive public tasting room and outdoor beer garden will provide customers with an east coast opportunity to experience the Green Flash brand first-hand. The grand opening marks the next chapter for Green Flash, the 41st largest craft brewery in the US, poising the brewery for continued national growth. The brewery opening is generating excitement among locals, who are eager to welcome Green Flash to their growing craft beer community.

While the brewery will continue to be headquartered with corporate offices in San Diego, the Virginia Beach facility will serve as the East Coast hub for Green Flash. The tasting room will be family-friendly and feature as many as 30 Green Flash beers on tap, a vast beer garden, food trucks, retail store, extensive brewery tour program and large private-event room and garden. The events taking place during their grand opening weekend will offer visitors a taste of things to come, as Green Flash plans to host a robust brewery events program, planning ongoing activities designed to engage with the Virginia Beach community year-round.

“Craft beer lovers and the community as a whole are looking forward to the Green Flash experience,” said Virginia Beach Economic Development Director Warren D. Harris. “Having this world-class craft brewery in our backyard is certainly something to cheer about. Not only will Green Flash serve the East Coast some award-winning beers, but the company has a history of supporting the community in a variety of ways that make a difference in people’s lives.”

The interior of the brewery’s production floor has been designed to duplicate the operations of their West Coast brewery, with all brew house and fermentation cellar equipment manufactured by Paul Mueller Company of Springfield, Missouri. The ultimate production capacity will be 100,000 annual barrels and, upon opening in November they will begin brewing their bestselling front-line beers to fulfill orders on the east coast. While overseeing the installation of the brewery’s interior, Brewmaster Erik Jensen is focused on ensuring the beers are consistent on each coast. Jensen is examining every element that will impact the outcome of the beer, including adding minerals to the Virginia Beach water so that its profile will match that of the San Diego water used.

“I am focused on achieving consistency for the end-product, and everything from the brewhouse and fermentation equipment to bottling line is an exact replica of the equipment used in the San Diego brewery,” explains Green Flash Brewmaster, Erik Jensen. “Additionally, four San Diego brewing team veterans, including head brewer, Evan Chamberlain, are relocating permanently to Virginia Beach to ensure the Green Flash method of brewing is exactly replicated. All brewers hired in Virginia will also be invited to spend time training in San Diego at the brewery headquarters.”

Green Flash is in the process of hiring for both the brewery and tasting room, and expects to employ upwards of 40 locals when they are fully staffed.

Green Flash is working closely with developer, The Miller Group, and the project has generated significant excitement among the over 300 local area residents who have had a hand in erecting the building as well as among the growing numbers of craft beer fans in the area.

Green Flash Brewing Co. announces plans for their 2016 “Treasure Chest” program, the craft brewery’s 6TH annual beer release and event series to raise funds for breast cancer charities. Once again, this year’s program will include the release of Treasure Chest beer packaged in 22oz bottles to limited national availability. The beer will also be available on-draft in over 27 US states, supported by a dynamic retail and on-premise event program in key cities. Treasure Chest beer will be available beginning in September through November 2016. On August 27th, Green Flash will kick off the fundraiser by hosting the 6th annual San Diego Treasure Chest Fest – a rare beer and food pairing experience at the brewery. Bright pink bottles of Treasure Chest beer (22oz) will be available at retailers from coast to coast featuring the program’s iconic branding. For the 3rd year running Green Flash will host Treasure Chest Fest at their brewery space on the east coast on November 12th. Green Flash will donate proceeds from the Treasure Chest program to three breast cancer charities including Prevent Cancer nationally and the Susan G Komen affiliates in San Diego and Virginia Beach, offering support in each of their home town markets.

Raising money for the fight against breast cancer is a cause which is near and dear to the hearts of everyone at Green Flash. Brewery Co-Founder, Lisa Hinkley is a breast cancer survivor and is passionate about helping others whose lives have been affected by this disease.
