About Monica Hoover:

Monica Hoover has been working as a freelance fashion, product and fine art photographer for the past seventeen years. Her client roster includes the likes of ASICS, Hasbro, the Hard Rock Hotel, Charlotte Russe, FTD, and Green Flash, just to name a few. In steady demand, Hoover recently opened a new photography studio in downtown San Diego and teaches photography part time at the Art Institute San Diego.

Hoover was born in 1976 in Erie, Pennsylvania, then later moved to Philadelphia where she attended Drexel University and earned a B.S. in photography, and a minor in architecture. A West Coast transplant since 1999, Hoover founded VOICE 1156 in downtown San Diego, a photography-design studio-urban fine art gallery that she headed from 2004 until 2007. Her newest endeavor is RESCUED Cards, a fine art photography-based greeting card company designed to support the valiant efforts of animal rescues across the United States and northern Mexico.

Always drawn to revealing and reimagining the aesthetics around her, Hoover created her first image panels for an art exhibition in 2006. She was inspired by the street artists she met through VOICE and her former co-workers at previous San Diego design agency BLK/MRKT. Hoover has savored years of friendship, mentorship and true artist kinship. With several “bombing” excursions under her belt, she has learned the true art of street postering. Immersing herself in this technique and seeking to evolve it, Hoover has taken the process to a new level by using her own photographs “bombed” on panels for clients to enjoy indoors. Hoover’s panels have been commissioned for MTV’s The Real World and Beyond Dance reality shows. They have also been seen on Desperate Housewives of NYC and the Food Network. Cat Greenleaf of NYC’s Talk Stoop commissioned the very first 4’x6’ Health panel back in 2006. Today, Hoover’s image panels can be found on display in multiple cities and collections across the country.

When not creating or teaching art, Hoover spends the bulk of her time with her husband, daughter, son and dog. She also dedicates her time and talents to various animal rescues and animal welfare causes.
